About Us
Who We Are
T Bar Longhorns was established by Shane Trevor in 2021. Shane became aware that Texas Longhorns are well suited to the Queensland climate, being able to cope well with heat and humidity as well as dry spells. Further, the cattle as browsers rather than grazers, enabling them to feed on a variety of vegetation and feel at home in a wide range of environments.

Mission and Aspirations
An Environmental and Natural Farm
Regenerative Farming
The stud is located at Colosseum, Queensland in the catchment area of the southern Great Barrier Reef. The property evidences a variety of soils and vegetation, and benefits from reliable water sources including a picturesque creek and several permanent water holes and springs.
The property had been neglected for a number of years before the stud relocated there in 2022. While the potential was obvious, there was much work to be done in removing introduced invasive plant species and improving soil quality. Shane had developed a passion for soil and pasture management and immediately implemented a mob grazing system using moveable electric fencing. Small ‘cells’ of around 1-2 acres are set up for cattle to graze for 1-4 days depending on conditions. The strategy is to allow cattle to eat all edible vegetation in the cell rather than selectively eating the just preferred species. In doing this, a range of less palatable species are also consumed and vegetation not desired for regrowth is able to be eliminated.
The strategy for sustainable, productive and environmentally beneficial farming practices involves the following steps:
-
Cattle graze within small cell paddocks. Manure is trampled into the soil to enrich future growth.
-
The pasture is then mulched to return uneaten vegetation to the soil ecosystem.
-
Seed is planted to enhance the existing desired species and provide competition to eliminate low value species. Seed planting takes place via the no-till method to minimise soil disturbance and encourage microbe prevalence.
-
Pasture is rested for a period (season and rainfall dependent) before being re-grazed.
The quality of soil and fodder species has experienced noticeable improvement in the past two years of undertaking this strategy.

Where it all started
Breeding program
Shane initially purchased 10 head of full blood Texas Longhorns from Michael and Lynda Bethel of Horseshoe B Longhorns, including a young bull. He has gradually added to the herd through additional purchases, natural increase, and instituting an artificial insemination (AI) and embryo program using semen imported from the United States. As at March 2025 the herd numbers approximately 70 animals.
